In-Person Gathering Updates

UPDATED: July 6, 8:00 p.m.

Greetings to you all, our Mission Point Family and Friends.

It is incredible to think that Mission Point is just a few days away from physically regathering as a church. As we look forward to that, here some key updates on our plans moving forward.

As we promised we would do from the start of this Pandemic season, we have continued to listen closely to key and trusted voices in our world. These voices have continued to help us make the best decisions possible when it comes to caring for the people God has entrusted to us; honoring the authorities God has placed over us and carrying out the mission God has laid before us.

GOVERNING AUTHORITIES

The July 4th weekend was supposed to mark the final stage of reopening, a stage in which limits would be lifted on how many people are able to physically gather in one place. As most of you know, because of the recent rise in positive COVID19 cases in Indiana (albeit due in part to increased testing) that date has been delayed a couple of weeks.

MEDICAL EXPERTS

We have had the privilege of listening to area medical experts, in particular those who love Jesus and love His church. They continue to have to help us think through creating the safest environment possible (while being honest about the higher risk involved with meeting for church indoors).

OUR PEOPLE

We have had the privilege of listening to you, our people. We have heard the voices of those of you who are enthusiastic about regathering as well as those of you who have strong reservations. We have heard from those of you saying you cannot wait to be together as well as those of you who are saying you do not plan on joining us for a while. We have listened to our staff, many of whom have strong concerns about their own safety and that of their families. Thank you for lending your voices to this process. We are listening.

OUR SAVIOR

We trust you will not be offended when we say that above and beyond all the various voices, we have been most keen to hear the voice of our Savior. We have continued to weigh all the input against the question: WHAT DOES JESUS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS? Ultimately what Jesus says wins. Thank you for embracing that sentiment.

In processing all the input we have heard, here is where we have landed (and It will come as no surprise that we are taking an unconventional approach this summer).

THE PLAN

MISSION POINT COMMUNITY CHURCH PLANS TO PHYSICALLY MEET TOGETHER THIS SUNDAY, JULY 12th AT THE WARSAW PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. We did not want to keep pushing the date back. However, in light of the most recent and relevant information we have, we are making some key adjustments.

ADJUSTED LOCATION

We will meet outside on the grass to the right of the Performing Arts Center. This allows:

  • Space to spread out and better practice social distancing.
  • Greater opportunity for droplets to disperse into the air.
  • Fewer restrictions on how many people can gather in one place.
  • More freedom to sing out as we worship.

*While meeting outdoors and social distancing vastly lowers the risks, we would still suggest that you bring a mask (we will also have some available) for the moments when social distancing may not be possible. No one will be forced to wear a mask or shamed if they choose not to.

ADJUSTED TIME

We will plan on meeting in person at 9 a.m. to avoid the Indiana summer heat as much as possible. Our service will still be streamed online live at 9 a.m. and will be re-aired at 10:45 a.m.

ADJUSTED FREQUENCY

Given the information we have (from volunteers, staff and many of you), we will plan to physically meet once a month for the summer months. We will meet on the Second Sundays in July, August and September. For the other weeks, we will stream our services as we have these past few months.

ACCELERATED MISSION

In all of this, the thing we have sensed Jesus doing more than anything else is calling us back to the mission of showing and sharing His love in our world. Remember, the success of Mission Point will not be measured by how many people gathered in one place….it will be measured by how many of those people left the gathering to be the hands, feet and voice of Jesus in our world. We believe this is a time for our church to focus its energies on positioning and preparing to love on hurting people; to be a bridge of unity; to encourage our frontliners and educators; to care for the most vulnerable among us and to share the hope of the Gospel with the lost. So, while we work to keep our people safe during this pandemic, we will work even harder to make sure the kingdom of darkness is not safe from us.

Thank you for being a part of this mission movement. Strap in, we are picking up speed.

Check out the video below to learn more about our decision-making during this time.

PATH TO THE PAC: OUR PLAN FOR REENTRY

UPDATED: May 6, 4:30 p.m.

Dear Mission Point Family.

As promised, we have continued to monitor the COVID19 information and the corresponding recommendations from medical experts, governing authorities and independent sources. We thank God for what seem to be signs of loosening restrictions and a clearing path towards fully reengaging life outside our homes. We are especially thankful for the unique freedoms churches are being given to resume physical gatherings….as early as this weekend (5/10/20). As we have considered the various options afforded us, we feel deeply inclined to take the more conservative of approaches.

Mission Point Community Church exists to show and share the love of Jesus. That means, we want to be driven by questions like: what does the love of Jesus look like in this situation? How can we best display Jesus’ love to each other and our community? How do we prioritize others right now? etc. In asking questions like that, we strongly feel that love looks like prioritizing the health and safety of the most vulnerable among us and in our community. While we certainly have the desire (we miss you all so much), freedom and right to expedite our physical Sunday morning gathering, we want to lay those privileges down a few more weeks for the sake of loving our community well.

ABOUT WORSHIP GATHERINGS

Our plan is to resume physical worship gatherings at the Warsaw Performing Arts Center on Sunday, July 12th. After July 5th, a church of our size (250+) will be officially cleared to meet without restrictions to our numbers or exclusions to any of our age-groups. This timeframe also allows us to work with Warsaw Schools to ensure we are cleared and fully prepared to create the safest possible environment.

ABOUT GROUP LIFE

Though we may be waiting a few weeks to resume corporate worship gatherings, we are activating all Adult Small Group gatherings effective immediately. According to the Indiana state-standards, groups no larger than 25 may gather NOW (provided they maintain the recommended social distancing guidelines). All Adult MP Small Groups may resume physical gatherings/meetings at their discretion immediately. That includes Missional Communities (small groups), Connection/Ministry Groups and Church Staff/Leadership.

In a desire to prioritize each other’s health and safety we are asking that all official MP Gatherings observe the following recommendations:

-Do not exceed 25 people.

-Observe all recommended social distancing practices.

-Provide a virtual alternative for those who may feel uncomfortable gathering physically because of conscience or caution.

We are humbled to be part of a church family that puts the love of Jesus on display so beautifully. Thank you for the incredible ways you have continued to be and to engage the church during this time. Thank you for your prayers, your care, your generosity and your encouragement. We will be stronger on the other side of this.

Please stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks including a series of messages processing this reentry a little more. In the meantime, continue to be the church and to join us for church online on Sundays.

 - Kondo Simfukwe for the Mission Point Elders and Staff.

OUR APPROACH TO COVID-19

UPDATED: April 13, 12 p.m.

Important Notice: All in-person gatherings are cancelled until further notice. We are monitoring the situation and expert recommendations closely, and will update as soon as anything changes.

As a Mission Point Leadership team, we are very concerned about the current situation in our county and world. Be assured that we will take the precautions recommended by the authorities and experts for the safety of our congregation and community.

However, beyond our concern….we step into this season with great hope and anticipation. We have the privilege of taking our ultimate cues from the God who holds the whole world in His hands (pandemics and all).

Church...His sovereignty will not change. His promises will not shift. His word will not be contaminated. And so, His people NEED NOT FRET.

We saw this in John 9 just a couple of weeks ago: When we cannot explain challenging seasons, it is best to start with the assumption that God is fixin’ to show off His glory (John 9:3). That stirs anticipation in us.

In the meantime, let’s pray and be on the lookout for the ways He wants to use us to make His glory viral. His mission is not slowing down and neither must ours.

Below are some of the ways we fully intend to BE the church during this season:

ABOUT CONNECTION

Due to community precautions, we will not be able to meet in-person in the Warsaw Performing Arts Center for the foreseeable future. However, we will be streaming shortened services on our Facebook Page and our YouTube Channel at 10:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. each Sunday.

MP Interactive

We believe that Connection is even more vital in a time like this for our personal encouragement and protection, as well as the strengthening of others. In order to prioritize that crucial connection, we will create space at the end of each Sunday service for MP Interactive - follow-up conversations in small groups.

Missional Communities will be given questions and will be encouraged to meet up digitally through platforms like Google Hangouts and Facebook Messenger etc to process what it looks like to live out truth together.

If you are not yet in a Missional Community (Small Group), no problem - sign up to be a part of an MP Interactive Group here.

All in-person connection events, regardless of size, are cancelled until further notice. We are working diligently and hoping to provide some of these events through an online platform. Please stay tuned for updates on each event.

ABOUT SERVING / CARE

This challenging season cannot and will not change who we are and what matters to us as a church. We will not only continue to connect with each other, but we will also continue to serve and care for each other. Our Care Coordinator, Olivia Burkholder has created a way for us to practically do both of those things. We want to especially serve those in our MP Family who may be susceptible to or struggling with the effects of COVID-19. If you are lower-risk and are open to serving those in the higher-risk category by running minor errands, we will help connect you. Simply fill out the Volunteer Form below. If you need help during this season, please simply fill out the Assistance Request Form below.

Currently, we are unable to offer official aid to all Warsaw/Kosciusko residents, so we hope that the MP Family will take it upon themselves to serve friends, family and neighbors who might need some extra help. Let’s BE the church.

ABOUT GIVING

Thank you for the ways your generosity allows us to show up in each other’s lives and in the lives of folks in our community in times like this. Even though we will not be gathering together on Sunday, the mission of showing and sharing Jesus does not slow down. We invite you to continue being generous. You can always do so by mail or online. All options for generosity are on our GIVE page on our website.

ABOUT REACHING

As you can imagine, for many this is a season of concern and perhaps even despair. What an opportunity for the people of Jesus to share our hope….on repeat. We will constantly have opportunities to point people to a Savior who is not surprised or shaken by any of this. What an opportunity to invite people to the One who said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Make the most of the moments.
